Weight Checks for Missing Components

Weight Checks for Missing Components

To learn more about weight checks for missing components, you’ve come to the right spot.

When weighing smaller toy parts, getting accurate weight and the manufacturing environment can disrupt count measurements. A check weigher was subsequently designed and installed to ensure the precise weighing of the tiniest injection-molded parts irrespective of drafts, temperature fluctuation, or static charge within the manufacturing environment. To learn more about weight checks for missing components, read on!

Applications

Small bags of small plastic parts are electrostatically neutralized in the check weigher, and then weighed. A conveyor system is used to sort through all the products into good and bad groups.

Products

Products used for weigh checks for missing components are 15 check weighers WK with ionization units.

Benefits for the Customers

Using the check weighers WK plus developed especially for their requirements, it was possible to reduce any raw material consumptions and therefore increase the efficiency of production too.

  • High-precision check weighing
  • Minimizing rejects
  • Increase product quality
  • Simple and uniform operating processes

Project Implementation and Goal

The Playmobil manufacturer geobra Brandstatter Stiftung and Company KG produces the majority of their toys in Dietenhofen, Germany. This also includes smaller parts like flowers or accessories. Approximately 3 million parts are made daily, packaged into small PVC bags, and checked and weighed. The good bags are taken to final production from this checkpoint, while the rejected ones are recycled.

The manufacture of Playmobil toys using injection molding equipment results in heat being generated as a consequence of production. Temperatures might vary in production. Temperatures vary within the production department depending on the time of the day and the season. Ventilation is used to reduce the temperatures, but this, in turn, can cause drafts. At the same time, the weighing of plastic parts has a third influence that will disrupt the weighing results, primarily electrostatic charge. This influence is powerful in smaller-part production; in the past, it was solved using overfilling. A new higher-precision weighing solution was required to change this and offer a solution considering all disruptive factors.

Minebea Intec was first approached back in 2017. The temperature drifts were the most straightforward problem for engineers since the load cells of Minebea Intec check weighers have integrated temperature compensation, which automatically will readjust the weighing. To help protect against the drafts on site and allow for flexible use in the smallest areas, a special cover was designed to shield the entire weighing process. In addition, an ionizer can be integrated into the check weigher, which neutralizes the electrostatic charge of the plastic parts shortly before the check weighing.
